Effects of retrograde autologous priming in adult patients undergoing cardiac surgery

چکیده
Background Adult cardiac surgery with extracorporeal circulation (ECC) is known to be associated with increased risk of blood transfusion and systemic inflammatory response leading to adverse outcomes. Modern procedures like retrograde autologous priming (RAP) may reduce these negative side effects of ECC. This randomized prospective study was initiated to assess whether RAP using specifically designed RAP bag (Terumo) has immediate effects on patient outcome.

Evaluation of Retrograde Autologous Priming (RAP) effect on Hemodilution and transfusion rate in operation room and ICU
Abstract Background and Objectives To perform open heart surgery, the patient needs to be placed on the bypass system. This initial volume causes excessive dilution of the patient's blood and the use of blood products, which can alter the surgical procedure and recovery of the patient. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the usefulness of performing a retrograde autologous prime to reduc...
متن کاملThe Effect of ringer Lactate as the Priming Solution of the Cardiopulmonary by Pass Circuit on Plasma Potassium Levels after Open Heart Surgery in Children
Background: Conduct of cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) due to the higher volume of priming solution in comparison to the total blood volume in children requires careful consideration. Recently attention has been focused on the potential risk of hyperkalemia in these patients. Given its significant effects on cardiac rhythm, hyperkalemia is considered a medical emergency. In this cross-sectional st...
متن کاملClinical applications of retrograde autologous priming in cardiopulmonary bypass in pediatric cardiac surgery
Retrograde autologous priming (RAP) has been routinely applied in cardiac pediatric cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). However, this technique is performed in pediatric patients weighing more than 20 kg, and research about its application in pediatric patients weighing less than 20 kg is still scarce. This study explored the clinical application of RAP in CPB in pediatric patients undergoing cardiac...
متن کاملThe Effect of Autologus Blood Priming on Cerebral Oximetry in Congenital Cardiac Surgery Patients.
Hemodilution is one of the sequelae of cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). Autologous blood priming (retrograde autologous priming [RAP]/venous antegrade priming [VAP]) and acute normovolemic hemodilution (ANH) may be effective techniques to minimize hemodilution. The primary objective of this study is to investigate the impact of RAP/VAP combined with ANH on changes in cerebral saturations. A retros...
متن کاملCorrelation of intraoperative renal near infrared spectroscopy with the development of acute kidney injury in adult patients undergoing cardiac surgery using cardiopulmonary bypass
Introduction: The present study aimed to correlate renal oximetry near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) values with conventional non-invasive biomarkers for the early detection of acute kidney injury (AKI) in adult patients undergoing cardiac surgery using cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). Accordingly, renal NIRS can be employed as a trending device for the prevention of AKI developmen...
